Born in Moscow in 1948. 1971 - graduated from the Moscow State University named after M. Lomonosov, Law Department; 1974 - completed the postgraduate studies at the Moscow State University, Chair of Civil Law, and defended a Ph.D. thesis. From 1974 - a faculty member of the Chair of Civil Law at the Law Department of the Moscow State University.
Doctor of Juridical Science (since 1986) and Professor of Law at the Chair of Civil Law (since 1990). 1992 - 2003: the Dean of the Law Department of the Moscow State University named after M. Lomonosov. Since 1992 - present: the Head of the Chair of Civil Law. More than 300 publications on civil law issues, including comments to the Civil Code of the Russian Federation and other laws, as well as textbooks, monographs, and articles.
Since 1992: a member of the main working team engaged in the development of the new Civil Code of the Russian Federation, and the Official Representative of the President of the Russian Federation at the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. A member of the working teams engaged in the development of a number of laws of the Russian Federation and former Soviet Union: 1989 - 1990 - Property Laws in the USSR and RSFSR; 1990 -1991 - the Fundamentals of the Civil Legislation of the USSR and Soviet republics; 1995 - Production Cooperatives Federal Law; 1996 -1997 - Limited Liability Companies Federal Law; 1995 -1996 - the Model Civil Code for the CIS countries etc).
A member of the Scientific Advisory Boards of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Arbitration Court of the Russian Federation. A member of the Justice Improvement Council under the President of the Russian Federation; a member of the Civil Legislation Codification Council under the President of the Russian Federation; a member of the Council of the Private Law Research Center under the President of the Russian Federation, a Vice President of the Russian Lawyers Union.
An arbitrator of the International Commercial Arbitration Court under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation; the Chairman of the Court of Arbitration for Resolution of Economic Disputes under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation; an arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration of the Association of Russian Banks; and arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration of the Interbank Financial House.
2007 - bestowed with the title of The Honored Worker of Science of the Russian Federation.
